The story

A Crane's Dance

Hello, I am a Red-crowned Crane. My legs are very long and tall, which helps me walk in the water. My feathers are soft and white, just like a fluffy cloud. On top of my head, I have a special red patch that looks like a little crown. I live in a beautiful, watery home called a wetland, and it is the best place to be.

My most favorite thing to do in the whole world is dance. I love to dance with my special partner. We leap high into the air together. I stretch my giant wings out wide and flap them up and down. Then, I bow my head down low, and my partner bows back to me. Our dance shows everyone that we are best friends for life. After we dance, we build a cozy nest together on the ground to make a safe home.

I am also a wetland helper. Every day, I wade through the cool water and look for yummy snacks to eat. I find little fish swimming by, tiny bugs on the leaves, and tasty green plants. When I eat all these things, I help keep my wetland home clean and healthy. It makes the water a happy place for all of my friends who live here, too. I love being an important helper in my big, beautiful world.

By dancing and helping keep the wetlands clean, I show how every creature is important. My story reminds everyone to take care of our watery homes so that other cranes can dance and help for many years to come. We all help make the world a wonderful place.
