Roaches

Hello there! My name is Roach, and I have a story to tell you. My family is one of the oldest on Earth. We were here long before the dinosaurs! My earliest relatives showed up around 320 million years ago, which is a very, very long time. My body is perfect for exploring tiny places. I have a flat shape that lets me squeeze into tight spots where no one else can go. I also have six super-fast legs that help me scurry away from danger in a flash. My favorite tools are my long antennae. They stick out from my head and help me smell and feel everything around me, which is super helpful when I’m crawling around in the dark looking for an adventure.

I am not a picky eater at all, which makes finding food a fun game. I love munching on tasty crumbs that people drop on the floor, a little bit of sugar that gets spilled, or even fallen leaves outside. Sometimes, I even find the glue in old books to be a yummy snack! Because I can eat almost anything, I am one of nature’s best recyclers. I can also live almost anywhere. You might find me under a cozy log in a forest, or in a quiet, dark corner inside a human’s home. My main goal is always the same: find somewhere warm and safe to hide and maybe find a little something to eat. It’s a simple life, but a busy one!

Even though I am small, I have a very big job for the planet. By eating up all the leftover bits and pieces that nobody wants, I help clean the environment. When I eat old material, I help break it down so it can turn into healthy soil for new plants to grow. I am also an important part of the food chain. I provide a tasty meal for other animals like birds, lizards, and even spiders. I know that some people get scared when they see me, but my family and I are amazing survivors. We roaches play a big part in keeping the world clean and healthy for everyone, and that is a job I am very proud of.
