The story

Anemone's Ocean Home

Hello. My name is Anemone. I live deep down in the ocean, and even though I look like a colorful flower, I'm actually an animal. My bright, wavy parts aren't petals. They're my arms, called tentacles. I use my special sticky foot to hold on tight to rocks, so the ocean currents don't whoosh me away. I come in all sorts of bright colors, like a rainbow under the sea.

I love to wave my tentacles gently in the water. I wait very patiently for a little snack, like a tiny shrimp, to float by. When it gets close, my tentacles give it a surprising little tickle-sting and grab it for my lunch. But some fish are my best friends. Clownfish can swim all around my tentacles and not get tickled at all. It's our special secret. They snuggle in my arms to stay safe from bigger fish.

My clownfish friends help keep me clean, and I give them a safe, cozy home to live in. We're a great team. I love being a helpful part of our big ocean neighborhood. By providing a safe spot for my friends, I help make the coral reef a happy and busy place for everyone. Being a living home is the best job in the world.
