The story

The Story of Alexander the Great

Hello! My name is Alexander, and I want to tell you my story. I was born a prince in a kingdom called Macedon, way back in the year 356 BCE. My father was the king, Philip II, and he was a powerful leader. When I was a boy, a wild black horse named Bucephalus came to our kingdom. No one could tame him because he was very scared. I noticed he was afraid of his own shadow, so I gently turned him toward the sun. When his shadow disappeared behind him, he calmed down right away. From that day on, Bucephalus was my best friend and bravest companion on all my adventures.

My father wanted me to have the best education, so when I was 13 years old, he hired the most famous teacher in the world, a wise man named Aristotle. He taught me all about plants, animals, poetry, and how to think about big, important ideas. His lessons made me very curious about the world and all the different people in it. When I turned 20, in the year 336 BCE, my father died, and it was my turn to become king. I was young, but I had huge dreams to explore the world and see places no one from my home had ever seen before.

I gathered my army and we set off on a great journey. We traveled farther than most people had ever gone, across seas, deserts, and mountains. We fought in big battles against the giant Persian Empire and were victorious, which means we won. I wanted to share my love for Greek art, ideas, and stories with everyone I met, so I started building new cities. In 331 BCE, I founded my favorite city in Egypt and named it Alexandria, after me! It became a famous place for learning and had a giant library where people could read and study.

My amazing journey ended in the city of Babylon in the year 323 BCE. I lived to be 32 years old. Even though my life was short, my story has been told for thousands of years. The cities I built and the way I connected different parts of the world changed history forever. People remember me for my bravery and my big dreams, which show that with courage and curiosity, even a young person can change the world.
