Just want Alfred Nobel?
Hello! My name is Alfred Nobel. I was born in a beautiful city called Stockholm, Sweden, on October 21st, 1833. My father, Immanuel, was an inventor, and our home was always filled with interesting gadgets and plans. I loved learning how things worked. When I was a boy, my family moved to a big city in Russia called Saint Petersburg. I didn't go to a regular school, but I had wonderful teachers who taught me all about science and books.
Of all my subjects, I loved chemistry the most! It felt like magic, mixing different things together to see what would happen. But I also had a secret love: writing poetry. I filled notebooks with poems and stories. Around the 1850s, I traveled and studied in different countries, like France and the United States. I learned to speak many different languages, which helped me talk to people and read books from all over the world.
I started working with a powerful but very dangerous liquid called nitroglycerin. It could be used to blast through rock to build tunnels and canals, but it was so wobbly that it could explode by accident. This was very sad, and I knew I had to find a way to make it safer. After many experiments, in 1867, I finally did it! I discovered that if I mixed the nitroglycerin with a special kind of fine clay, it turned into a paste. I called my new invention dynamite. It was powerful, but much, much safer to handle.
My invention of dynamite and other things made me a very wealthy man. I had factories all over the world. But it made me sad to think that some of my inventions were being used for fighting in wars. I wanted my life's work to be about helping people, not hurting them. So, I came up with a special plan. In 1895, I wrote down my final wishes in a document called a will. It held a big surprise for the world.

In my will, I left most of my money to create a special honor, which became known as the Nobel Prize. Every year, these prizes are given to people who have done the most good for the world in science, medicine, literature, and in working for peace. I lived to be 63 years old. Even though my life ended, I am so happy that my prizes continue to celebrate incredible people who use their talents to make the world a better, kinder, and smarter place for everyone.
