The story

Alfred Russel Wallace: The Great Explorer

Hello. My name is Alfred Russel Wallace. I was born a very long time ago, in the year 1823. When I was a little boy, I loved being outside more than anything. I would look for pretty flowers, fuzzy caterpillars, and colorful birds in the fields near my home. I thought bugs were the coolest things. I collected all sorts of beetles and butterflies. I loved seeing all their different shapes and shiny colors. The world felt like a giant treasure hunt, and I wanted to see all of it.

When I grew up, I became an explorer. I got on a big boat and sailed to faraway jungles where it was warm and rainy. I saw amazing animals I had only dreamed of. There were monkeys with long tails swinging from trees and huge butterflies with wings like blue jewels. I even saw birds that looked like rainbows. I spent many years drawing and collecting these wonderful creatures. I wanted to show everyone back home how amazing nature is.

While I was exploring, I had a very big idea. I noticed that animals had special things that helped them live in their homes, like a frog that was green to help it hide in leaves. I wrote down my idea and shared it with my friend, another scientist named Charles Darwin. Together, we helped people understand more about the animal world. I lived a very long and happy life and passed away in the year 1913. I lived to be 90 years old. I am so happy people remember me as an explorer who shared the wonders of nature with the world.
