Alfred Wegener: The World's Giant Puzzle
Hello there. My name is Alfred Wegener, and I was born on November 1st, 1880. Ever since I was a little boy, I loved looking at maps of our big, beautiful world. I would trace the shapes of the land with my finger and wonder about all the amazing places. I especially loved the big blue oceans and the colorful countries. The world felt like a giant, wonderful mystery waiting to be explored.
One day, while looking at my map, I noticed something funny. The edge of one piece of land, called South America, looked like it could fit right next to another piece of land, Africa. It was like they were two pieces of a giant jigsaw puzzle. I thought, 'What if all the lands on Earth were once connected, like one big puzzle?'. I imagined them all snuggled together, and it made me so excited.
At first, not many people believed my puzzle-piece idea. But that was okay. I knew it was important to share what I believed. I lived to be 50 years old, and after many years, other scientists found more clues that showed I was right. Today, everyone knows the lands on our Earth do move, and my big idea helps us understand our amazing, changing planet.
