Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca: A Long Walk and New Friends
Hello. My name is Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca. I was an explorer from a country called Spain a long, long time ago. I loved having big adventures. My favorite thing to do was sail on big ships across the giant ocean. My job was to see new places and learn about the world. It was a very exciting job and I was happy to do it.
A long time ago, in the 1500s, I went on a very big trip. But a big, windy storm came and our ship got lost. We landed in a new place that I had never seen before. I had to walk for a very, very long time. My walk lasted for many years. On my journey, I met the people who lived in this new land. They were called Native Americans. We became friends. They were very kind to me and helped me find food and a safe place to sleep. I learned how to be a healer and helped them when they were not feeling well. We learned to help each other.
After my long walk was over, I was able to go all the way back home to Spain. I was so happy to be home. I decided to write a book about my big adventure. In my book, I told everyone about the beautiful lands I saw and all the kind Native American people I met. I lived a long, adventurous life. Today, people remember me for my incredible journey and the stories I shared about friendship in North America.
