Antoine de Saint-Exupéry: The Pilot Who Wrote a Prince

Hello! My name is Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. I was born in a beautiful city called Lyon in France, way back on June 29th, 1900. When I was a little boy, I was fascinated by machines that could fly. I would look up at the sky and imagine myself soaring through the clouds like a bird in my very own airplane. I just knew that one day, the sky would be my home.

When I grew up, my dream came true! In 1921, I learned how to be a pilot. My job was one of the most exciting jobs in the world: I was an airmail pilot. I flew a special plane to deliver letters and packages to people far away. My journeys took me over tall mountains and vast, sandy deserts. It was an amazing adventure. Once, in 1935, my plane even crashed in the big Sahara Desert! It was scary at first, but I also remember how beautiful and quiet it was there, with nothing but endless sand and sparkling stars above me.

I loved my adventures so much that I wanted to share them with everyone. So, I started writing books about flying and the things I saw from high up in the air. My most famous book is one you might know. I wrote it in 1943, and it's called The Little Prince. It’s a story about a pilot, just like me, who crashes in the desert and meets a special boy from a tiny planet. The story is all about friendship and remembering that the most important things in life can only be seen with your heart, not with your eyes.

I also flew planes to help my country during a big event called World War II. During one of my flights in 1944, my plane disappeared over the sea. I lived to be 44 years old. Even though I was gone, my stories live on. The Little Prince is still read by children and grown-ups all over the world, reminding everyone to look for the wonder in the world and to take care of each other and our planet.
