A Story of Augustus

Hello. My name is Augustus, and I was the very first emperor of Rome. I lived a long, long time ago. My great-uncle was a famous leader named Julius Caesar. I watched him and learned so much from him. When I grew up, I became a leader, too, just like he was. It was a very big job, but I wanted to help all the people in my city.

I had a big dream for Rome. When I was young, many of the buildings were made of brick. I wanted to make the city beautiful and strong for everyone. So, I decided to change it. I helped build new things with shiny, white marble. The city began to sparkle in the sun. We built strong roads so people could travel safely. We also built big, beautiful temples where people could go. I found a city of brick, and I left it a city of marble.

My most important job was helping people feel safe and happy. Before I became the emperor, there was a lot of fighting, and people were often scared. I worked very hard to stop the fighting and bring peace to everyone. This happy, safe time lasted for many, many years. People called it the 'Pax Romana,' which means 'Roman Peace.' It made me happy to see families feeling safe and living together peacefully.

I lived to be 75 years old. People remember me for making Rome a beautiful city of marble that shined bright. They also remember the long, happy time of peace I helped to create. It is always a wonderful thing to help others and make the world a safer, more beautiful place for everyone.
