The story

Buzz Aldrin: Walking on the Moon

Hello! My name is Buzz Aldrin. When I was a little boy, I loved to look up at the sky. I would watch airplanes zoom past and dream of flying high among the clouds. My dad was a pilot, and flying felt like the most exciting adventure in the world.

When I grew up, I became an astronaut! That meant I got to fly in a real-life rocket ship. In the year 1969, my friends Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and I flew on a very special mission called Apollo 11. Our rocket went all the way to the Moon! Neil and I landed our special ship, the Eagle, right on the Moon's dusty ground. I was the second person ever to step out and walk on the Moon. It was amazing! Everything was quiet, and because there was less gravity, every step I took was like a big, slow bounce.

Being one of the first people to walk on the Moon was the biggest adventure of my life. I got to see our beautiful blue Earth from very, very far away. I still love looking up at the stars and the Moon, and I hope you do, too. Always remember to dream big, because you never know what amazing adventures you might have one day!
