The story

Carl Wilhelm Scheele

Hello! My name is Carl. When I was a boy, I loved to see how things worked. I liked looking at all the different parts of things and figuring out how they fit together. When I grew up, I got a job as a pharmacist. A pharmacist is a person who helps make medicine for people who are sick, which is a very important job. My pharmacy was like a wonderful laboratory filled with so many colorful bottles and fun powders. I loved my job because I got to mix things together all day long and help people feel better.

I was always very curious. I would heat up powders and mix liquids just to see what would happen. It was like a fun game to see what new things I could make. One day, I found something amazing! It was a special kind of air that you can't see. When I put a candle near this special air, its flame burned super bright, like a little star shining in my room! It was so bright and beautiful. I decided to call it 'fire-air' because it loved fire so much and made the fire dance and glow.

Later, other scientists gave my 'fire-air' a new name: oxygen. It's the same air that we all breathe to live and that helps keep us strong and healthy. Every time you take a big breath, you are breathing in the special air I found. I lived a full life making many fun discoveries. I'm happy that my curiosity helped people learn more about the amazing world all around us.
