Just want Diego Rivera?
Hello! My name is Diego Rivera. I was born a long, long time ago, in the year 1886. I was an artist from the beautiful country of Mexico. When I was just a little boy, I loved to draw more than anything. I drew on everything! I would cover the walls of my house with pictures of trains and my friends. I knew right away that I wanted to spend my whole life painting big, colorful stories for everyone to see.
My very favorite way to paint was to make giant pictures right on the walls of buildings. These are called murals. They are so big that you have to walk next to them to see the whole story! I painted murals to show the history of my country, Mexico. I loved painting pictures of the hardworking people, the beautiful flowers that grew there, and the exciting stories from long ago. I wanted my art to be a special gift for everyone, so I painted my murals in public places where anyone could come and enjoy them.
I painted for many, many years. My wife, Frida Kahlo, was a wonderful painter, too. I lived to be 70 years old. Even though I am not here anymore, my giant, colorful murals are! They are still on the walls in Mexico and other places for children and grown-ups to see. I hope that when you see my art, you feel like you are reading a beautiful picture book about the people and stories I loved so much.
