Just want Diophantus of Alexandria?
Hello there. My name is Diophantus. I lived a very, very long time ago, around the year 250, in a big, beautiful city called Alexandria. My home was right next to the bright blue sea. Alexandria was a special place, full of tall buildings with many, many books. It was a city where everyone loved learning new things, and so did I.
My favorite game was playing with numbers. To me, numbers were like a fun puzzle just waiting to be solved. I liked to find secret numbers. For example, if you have one cookie but you want three, how many more cookies do you need? The secret number is two. I loved these games so much that I wrote all my favorite number puzzles down in a big book. I called it Arithmetica. I wanted to share my fun puzzles with everyone so they could love numbers, too.
My book, Arithmetica, helped people solve their own number puzzles for many, many years after I was gone. Even today, people still use my ideas to figure things out, which is pretty amazing. I lived a long and happy life filled with numbers. Knowing that my puzzles are still helping people learn makes me very proud, and I hope you have fun solving puzzles, too.
