Just want Edward Jenner?
Hello. My name is Edward Jenner, and I was a doctor from England who lived a long time ago. I loved helping people feel better. Back then, there was a very big sickness called smallpox. It made many people sick and made their families very sad. I wanted to do something to help everyone stay healthy and happy. I looked all around me for an idea to stop this sickness.
I noticed something very interesting about the people who milked cows. They would sometimes get a little sickness from the cows called cowpox. It wasn't a big deal, but it gave me a clever idea. I saw that the milkmaids who got cowpox never got the dangerous smallpox. I thought maybe the little sickness could teach the body how to fight the big sickness. I tested my idea on a kind little boy named James. I gave him a tiny bit of cowpox to make his body strong. And it worked. James was safe from smallpox.
My special medicine was called a vaccine. It helped protect people all over the world from getting sick. I lived to be 73 years old. Today, people remember me because my idea helped get rid of smallpox forever. My work made the world a much healthier place for everyone to live and play.
