Just want Empedocles?
Hello! My name is Empedocles. I lived a very, very long time ago in a sunny place called Akragas in Sicily. I loved to look at the world around me—the big blue sea, the tall green trees, and the bright, warm sun. I always asked lots of questions because I was so curious about how everything worked.
I had a super big idea about what everything is made of. I looked around and thought that everything in the whole world was a mix of just four special things. I called them my 'roots.' Can you guess what they are? Earth, like the soft dirt you can squish between your toes. Water, like a big splash in a puddle. Air, like the gentle wind that tickles your face. And Fire, like a warm, cozy campfire. I believed these four things mixed together, like different colors of paint, to make everything you see.
Besides thinking, I loved helping people. I tried to be like a doctor and help them feel healthy and strong. I also wrote my ideas in poems so everyone could hear them. My big idea about earth, air, fire, and water was told for a very, very long time after I was gone. It helped other curious people ask their own big questions about our amazing world. It is always wonderful to be curious and share your ideas.
