Just want Emperor Meiji?
Hello. My name is Emperor Meiji, but when I was a little boy, my name was Mutsuhito. I was born in a beautiful palace in a city called Kyoto, Japan, on November 3rd, 1852. A long time ago, when I was a child, Japan was a very quiet country. It was a special place that liked to keep to itself, like a cozy house with the doors closed.
When I grew up and became the emperor in the year 1867, I had a big idea. I wanted to help my country of Japan make new friends all around the world. It was time for a big change. We started to learn lots of new things. We learned how to build long trains that went choo-choo across the land. We also learned how to build new schools so everyone could learn to read and write. In 1868, I moved our country's home base from the city of Kyoto to a new city. We called it Tokyo, and it became our big, busy capital city.
I was so proud to watch Japan grow. It became a strong country where people could learn and try new things. I lived to be 59 years old. People remember me for helping Japan open its doors to the world. Because of the new ideas and new friends we made, Japan became the amazing country it is today.
