The story

A Storyteller Named George

Hello! My name is Aurore. I have a special writing name, too. You can call me George Sand. When I was a little girl, I lived in a beautiful place in the countryside called Nohant, in France. I loved to run and play outside. Most of all, I loved to imagine stories. I would make up tales about all the wonderful things I saw.

When I grew up, I knew I wanted to be a writer. Around the year 1832, I started sharing my stories with the whole world. Back then, it was tricky for women to be authors, so I had a clever idea. I chose a boy's name, George Sand, to write my books. I also liked to wear comfy clothes, like pants. Wearing pants helped me walk all around the big city of Paris to find ideas for my stories. It was very different for a woman to wear pants then, but it was just right for me.

I wrote so many books that people loved to read. I lived to be 71 years old. My stories are still shared with children and grown-ups today. People remember me for my wonderful books and for showing everyone that it is good to be brave. It is important to follow your dreams and be whoever you want to be.
