The story

A Prince Named Salim

Hello, my name is Jahangir. But when I was a boy, I was called Prince Salim. I was born on August 31st, 1569. My father was the great Emperor Akbar, and I grew up in a beautiful palace in a city called Fatehpur Sikri. It was a wonderful place to live. There, I learned all about amazing art and how to be a good and fair leader for my people. I watched my father carefully and prepared for the day I would become emperor.

When I grew up, that day finally came. In the year 1605, I became the fourth Mughal Emperor. It was a very important job. To show that I was starting a new chapter in my life, I chose a new name for myself. I became Jahangir, which is a powerful name that means 'Conqueror of the World.' It was so exciting to rule over a large empire, but it was also a big responsibility to take care of so many people and lands.

Even though I was an emperor, I had other things I loved. I was very passionate about nature. I thought animals, birds, and flowers were some of the most beautiful things in the world. I wanted to remember them forever, so I hired special artists who were very good at painting. They created detailed and colorful pictures of all the wonderful creatures and plants I saw. I also wanted everyone to enjoy nature's beauty, so I built magnificent gardens. One of the most famous ones is called Shalimar Bagh in a place called Kashmir. I wanted it to be a peaceful and lovely place for people to visit.

I did not rule all by myself. I had a very smart and wonderful wife named Nur Jahan. She was not just my wife; she was also my most trusted advisor. When I had a difficult problem or needed to make an important decision for the empire, I would ask for her help. She was so respected and clever that her name was even put on the empire's coins, right next to mine. This showed everyone how important she was.

I ruled as emperor for 22 years. I lived to be 58 years old and passed away in the year 1627. People today remember me for my love of justice and for all the beauty I brought to the world. The amazing paintings of nature and the lovely gardens that were created when I was emperor are still treasured by people all over the world. They are a reminder of a time filled with art and a love for the natural world.
