John Brown: A Friend to All
Hello, my name is John Brown. A long, long time ago, in the year 1800, I was born. When I grew up, I had a very important idea. I looked around and saw that some people were not free, and I knew in my heart that this was unfair. My big idea was simple. I believed that every single person in the world should be free. I wanted everyone to be treated with kindness, just like friends treat each other.
I wanted to be a helper. I saw that some people, called enslaved people, were treated in an unkind way. This made me feel sad because I knew it was wrong. I decided that I would spend my whole life working to help them. I wanted to make sure they could be safe and live happily with their families. Helping people find freedom was the most important job for me. I worked very hard to be a good friend to those who needed one.
My biggest wish was for a world filled with fairness for everyone. I lived a full life, and I always kept hoping for a better, kinder world. After my life was over, my ideas about freedom and kindness did not go away. They helped other people to keep working hard. People remembered my big idea and kept trying to make the world a fairer place for every single person. And that is a very happy thought.
