The story

John Tenniel: The Boy Who Loved to Draw

Hello. My name is John Tenniel. When I was a little boy, my very favorite thing to do was draw. I loved using my pencils and my pens to make pictures. I would draw everything I saw. Drawing made me so happy. I drew and drew all day long. I loved making my ideas come to life on paper. It was like magic.

One day, my friend Lewis Carroll wrote a very special story. In the year 1865, he asked me to draw pictures for his book. The story was about a curious girl named Alice. She followed a white rabbit down a rabbit hole into a magical place called Wonderland. I had so much fun drawing all the wonderful characters for the story. I drew the White Rabbit with his big watch. I drew a silly Mad Hatter having a tea party. I even drew a cat that could smile and then disappear.

My drawings helped bring Alice's amazing adventure to life. Children all over the world could see Wonderland in their books. I lived to be 93 years old. My pictures are still in books today, so you can always open a book and visit Wonderland whenever you want. My drawings help keep the magic of the story alive for everyone.
