A Story About José de San Martín

Hello, my name is José de San Martín. I was born in a place called South America a very long time ago, on February 25th, 1778. When I was a little boy, I loved to play and learn. As I grew up, I saw that some people needed help. I wanted to make sure everyone was treated with kindness and fairness. So, I decided to become a soldier. Being a soldier was my way of helping people and making the world a better, safer place for everyone to live and play in.

My biggest job was helping countries become free. Being free is like getting to make your own rules for your own house. I wanted my friends in different countries to be able to make their own happy rules. In the year 1817, I led my army of brave soldiers on a very big adventure. We climbed over the tall, snowy Andes mountains. It was a long journey, but we did it to help our friends in a country called Chile. I also helped my home, Argentina, and our friends in Peru.

After all my big adventures, my work was done. I helped many people find their freedom. I lived a long and happy life until I was 72 years old, and my life ended on August 17th, 1850. Today, people in Argentina, Chile, and Peru remember me. They think of me as a hero who helped them. They even gave me a special name, 'The Liberator,' because I helped set them free. It makes me happy to know that my story of helping others is still remembered.
