Just want Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez?
Hello. My name is Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez. I lived a long, long time ago in a beautiful country called Mexico. I loved my family very much, and I loved my home. We lived in a city called Querétaro. It was a wonderful place to live, full of sunshine and happy sounds. I always wanted to help the people in my country.
My friends and I wanted to help our country be a better place. We believed that Mexico should be free and fair for everyone who lived there. We would meet together in secret to talk about our big ideas. It was very important that no one else knew about our plans. We would whisper and make a special plan to help Mexico.
One day in the year 1810, I learned that someone had found out about our secret plan. I had to warn my friends right away so they would be safe. I was in my room, so I sent a secret message by tapping my foot on the floor. Tap, tap, tap. A friend downstairs heard my message. He got on his horse and rode far away to tell everyone. That little message helped start the big journey for Mexico's freedom.
I lived to be 55 years old. Today, people in Mexico remember me for being brave and helping my country. They even have a special name for me, 'La Corregidora'. I am so happy that I was able to be a helper for my country and its people.
