Just want Kasturbai Gandhi?
Hello! My name is Kasturbai, but everyone called me Ba. That means 'Mother'. I was born in a sunny town in India, a long time ago in the year 1869. When I was a girl, I married a kind man named Mohandas Gandhi. We held hands and promised to always help each other. We also promised to help other people, too.
My husband and I saw that some people were not being treated with kindness. We wanted to help make things fair for everyone. In the year 1893, we traveled on a big boat to a faraway country called South Africa. We worked to help the Indian people who lived there. Many years later, in 1915, we went back home to India. We worked together to help our whole country. We showed everyone that being peaceful and kind is the strongest way to make the world a better place.
I was a quiet person, but I showed that you can be brave and strong in a quiet way. I loved my family and my country very much. I lived to be 74 years old and lived a full life until the year 1944. Today, people remember me for my gentle heart and my courage. In India, many people call me the Mother of the Nation because I cared for everyone like they were my family.
