A Story About King George III

Hello! My name is George, and I was the King of Great Britain a long, long time ago. I was born on June 4th, 1738. I wasn't born to be king, but my father passed away. When my grandfather, King George II, died in 1760, I became the new king! I was only 22 years old, and I was very excited to lead my country.

Being king was a big job, but I had other hobbies, too. I loved science and had a special room with telescopes to look at the stars. My favorite thing to do was farming. I loved learning about new ways to grow crops, and people even called me 'Farmer George.' I also had a big, loving family. I married my wonderful wife, Queen Charlotte, in 1761, and we had 15 children! We bought a special home called Buckingham House, which you might know today as Buckingham Palace.

During my time as king, my kingdom was very large. It even included places far across the ocean, in America, which were called the colonies. But some of the people in the colonies were not happy. They didn't like the rules and taxes from Great Britain. In 1775, a war began, called the American Revolutionary War. It was a very difficult time. After the war ended in 1783, the colonies became their own new country: the United States of America. It made me sad to lose a part of my kingdom, but it was the beginning of a new nation.

I was king for almost 60 years, which is a very long time! As I grew older, I became quite ill, and my oldest son had to help me rule. I lived to be 81 years old. Today, people remember me as the king who ruled during the American Revolution. They also remember me as a king who loved his family, his country, and the simple life of a farmer.
