Hello there! My name is Taejo. Before I became a king, I was a soldier. I was very strong and brave. My most important job was to help people and keep them safe from harm. I loved protecting my home and all the families who lived there.
One day, I became the king! It was a very big job, and I wanted to start a brand new kingdom for everyone. In the year 1392, I named our new home Joseon. I wanted a special capital city for our kingdom, so I chose a perfect spot. We built a beautiful city and called it Hanyang. It had big gates and strong walls all around it to keep everyone safe and sound inside.
I lived a long and happy life for 72 years. The city I built, Hanyang, is still here today, but it has a new name: Seoul! Now, it is one of the biggest cities in the whole world. People remember me as the first king of Joseon, a kingdom that lasted for a very, very long time. I am so proud that I helped build a strong and wonderful home for the Korean people.
