The story

Leif Erikson: A Viking's Voyage

Hello! My name is Leif Erikson. I was a Viking, which means I loved adventure and sailing on the big, blue sea. My father, Erik the Red, was a famous explorer. I grew up on the chilly island of Greenland, listening to stories of his travels. I learned how to sail our amazing wooden ships, called longships, and I dreamed of my own adventures.

One day, around the year 1000, I was ready for a big trip. I gathered a brave crew and we set off on a great journey across the ocean. The wind pushed our sails, and we sailed for many, many days. Finally, we spotted something new—land! It was a beautiful place with tall trees and green fields. Best of all, there were lots of yummy berries that looked like grapes. We were so excited! I decided to call this new place 'Vinland,' which means 'Wine Land,' because of all the berries.

We were some of the very first people from my part of the world to visit this new land, which is now called North America. I lived a long life full of exciting voyages. Today, people remember me as a brave explorer who wasn't afraid to sail into the unknown to see what wonders the world had to offer.
