Just want Leucippus?
Hello. My name is Leucippus. I lived a very, very long time ago, around the 5th century BCE. I lived in a sunny place called Ancient Greece. I was a philosopher. A philosopher is someone who loves to think about big questions. I would look at the world around me. I saw the sandy beaches, the big blue sea, and the tall green trees. I wondered, 'What is everything made of?'.
I had a super big idea. I thought that if you could cut something in half, and then cut that half in half, you could keep cutting it. You could cut it into smaller and smaller pieces. Soon, you would get to a piece so tiny you could not cut it anymore. I called these super-duper tiny bits 'atoms'. I imagined that everything in the whole world was made of these little, invisible building blocks. I thought they were all jiggling and bouncing around.
I had a wonderful student named Democritus, and I loved sharing my ideas with him. He thought my idea about atoms was amazing. He helped me teach others about it. I lived a long life, always thinking and wondering. Even though no one could see atoms back then, my idea helped people start to understand our world. Today, scientists know that everything really is made of atoms, and it all started with a simple question.
