Hello! My name is María Elena Walsh. When I was a little girl growing up in Argentina, my house was filled with books and music. I loved making up silly rhymes and singing new songs. I would write poems about everything I saw, from the flowers in the garden to the funny faces I'd make in the mirror. Creating stories was my favorite game!
I loved writing for children like you. I wrote a song about a little turtle named Manuelita who went on a big adventure all the way to Paris! I also imagined a topsy-turvy place called the Upside-Down Kingdom, where cats say 'meow-woof' and birds swim in the sea. My songs were full of talking animals and magical places because I believed imagination is the most wonderful toy anyone can have.
I filled my life with music and stories, and I lived to be 80 years old. Even now, my songs are sung by children in schools and my books are read at bedtime all across the world. People remember me for the happy, silly, and magical worlds I created. I hope my stories make you smile and dream big, too.
