The story

Mumtaz Mahal

Hello! My name is Mumtaz Mahal. That's a special name that means 'the chosen one of the palace.' I was a queen a long, long time ago in a beautiful, sunny land called India. I lived in big, beautiful palaces with my husband, the king, Shah Jahan. It was a wonderful place to call home.

Shah Jahan and I were best friends. We loved to laugh and play with our children. We had a big, happy family! I loved helping people in our kingdom and making sure they had food and felt safe. Being with my family was my favorite thing in the whole world. Every day was full of joy and love.

I lived a happy life for 38 years. After my time on Earth was over, my dear husband missed me very much. He wanted to build something so beautiful that everyone would remember our love forever. He built a giant, sparkling white palace called the Taj Mahal. It is a special present to remember me, and it stands today as a symbol of our great love.
