The story

Hideyo Noguchi: The Doctor with Superhero Eyes

Hello. My name is Hideyo Noguchi. When I was just a tiny baby, a long time ago in the year 1876, I had an accident and hurt my hand. It was very sore, and it made me sad. A very kind doctor helped make my hand better so I could use my fingers again. This made me feel so happy. At that moment, I knew what I wanted to do when I grew up. I decided I would become a doctor, too. I wanted to help other people feel good, just like that wonderful doctor helped me.

When I grew up, I became a special kind of doctor called a scientist. Around the year 1904, I started my important work. My favorite tool was my microscope. I liked to call it my 'superhero eyes.' My superhero eyes helped me see a secret world full of teeny-tiny things that no one could see without help. I used my microscope to look for germs. Germs are so small you can't see them, but they can get inside our bodies and sometimes make us feel sick. My job was to find these germs and learn how they worked so I could help people.

I traveled to many different places all around the world to study germs and help people stay healthy. I wanted to make sure everyone could feel strong and well. I worked hard my whole life as a helper because helping others made me happy. I lived to be 51 years old. I hope my story shows that anyone can grow up to do wonderful things, no matter what happens.
