The story

Oscar Niemeyer: The Architect of Curves

Hello. My name is Oscar. I was born a long, long time ago, in the year 1907. I was an architect. That is a big word for someone who designs buildings. I lived in a sunny country called Brazil. When I was little, I loved to draw. I would imagine amazing new shapes for houses and big museums.

Most buildings have straight lines and corners. I thought that was a little boring. I loved to make my buildings with beautiful, swooping curves. My curves looked like the waves in the ocean or the big mountains in Brazil. I helped build a new city called Brasília. For Brasília, I designed special buildings that looked different from anything else. One looked like a giant flower. Another looked like a big, white bowl.

I lived a very long and happy life. I lived to be 104 years old. Today, you can still see my curvy buildings in Brazil and all around the world. I hope when you see them, you remember that it is wonderful to be different. It is wonderful to create amazing things that come from your imagination.
