The story

Pablo Neruda

Hello. My name is Pablo Neruda, and I am a poet. That means I love to play with words. I grew up in a beautiful country called Chile, where there were tall green forests and lots of cozy, rainy days. When I was a boy, I loved to explore. I would collect little treasures like shiny beetles, smooth stones, and colorful seashells. The whole world felt like a wonderful secret to discover.

Because I loved the world so much, I wrote poems about everything I saw. Some people think poems are only about big, important things, but I thought the little things were special, too. I wrote a poem about my fuzzy wool socks that kept my feet warm. I wrote a poem about a bright yellow lemon and another about a yummy onion. I even wrote poems about the big, splashy sea. I believed that words were like magic wands that could make anything, even a pair of socks, seem wonderful.

I lived a long, happy life filled with words and adventures. My poems traveled all over the world, like little paper birds, sharing my love for simple, beautiful things. Today, children and grown-ups still read my poems when they want to see the magic hiding in the world all around them.
