Hello. My name is Pedro Álvares Cabral. I lived a long, long time ago in a country called Portugal. My home was right next to the big, blue sea. I loved watching the waves and dreamed of sailing on tall ships. I always wanted to see what was on the other side of the big water.
One day, around the year 1500, the king asked me to go on a very important journey. He wanted me to sail my ships all the way to a place called India. I got my big wooden ships ready. We packed lots of food, and my friends came with me to help sail. We waved goodbye and went off across the sea. But as we were sailing, a big wind blew very hard. It pushed our ships far, far away from where we meant to go.
Then, we saw something amazing. It was land. We did not expect to find land, so it was a wonderful surprise. This new place was so beautiful. It had tall green trees and colorful parrots flying everywhere. This special land is now called Brazil. I was the first explorer from my country to see it, and I was so excited.
I lived to be about 53 years old and had many adventures on the sea. People today remember me for my big journey and for helping to connect different parts of our wonderful world. My trip showed everyone the beautiful land of Brazil.
