The story

The Story of Pelé

Hello! My name is Pelé. I was born a long, long time ago, in the year 1940. I grew up in a country called Brazil. When I was a little boy, I loved soccer more than anything in the whole world! My family didn't have much money, so we couldn't always buy a real soccer ball. That was okay! I would find other things to kick. Sometimes, I would take a sock and stuff it with paper to make a ball. Other times, I would even use a yummy fruit, like a mango, to practice. I would run and kick all day long. In my mind, I was always pretending I was scoring the winning goal in a very big game. It was so much fun.

I practiced and practiced every single day. As I grew up, my dream came true! I got to play for real soccer teams. I was very fast on my feet, and I loved to score lots and lots of goals for my team. My favorite thing to do was play for my whole country, Brazil. I put on my special yellow shirt and played with all my heart. Together, my team and I won the biggest trophy in the world, the World Cup! We did it not just once, but three times, in 1958, 1962, and 1970. Winning made everyone in Brazil so happy, and we all cheered and danced together.

People started calling me the 'King of Football' because they loved how I played. I wanted to show everyone that soccer is a 'beautiful game.' It is a game that can bring people from all over the world together to cheer and have fun. I lived a long and happy life and grew to be 82 years old. I passed away in the year 2022. I am remembered for sharing my love for soccer with everyone and for making people smile when they watched me play.
