Just want Pliny the Elder?
Hello! My name is Gaius Plinius Secundus, but you can call me Pliny the Elder. I was born a very long time ago, around the year 23, in a beautiful town called Como in what is now Italy. Even as a little boy, I was full of wonder. I wanted to know everything! Why is the sky blue? How do spiders spin their webs? I spent my days looking closely at rocks, plants, and animals, writing down everything I saw. The world was my favorite book, and I wanted to read every single page.
When I grew up, I became a commander in the mighty Roman army and an important helper to the emperors. I sailed to faraway lands and saw amazing things. But no matter how busy I was, I always made time for my real passion: learning and writing. I would read while eating my lunch and even while traveling in a chariot! I carried a notebook everywhere because I didn’t want to forget a single interesting fact.
I decided to collect all the knowledge in the world into one giant work. Around the year 77, I finished my masterpiece and called it 'Naturalis Historia,' which means 'Natural History.' It was made of 37 books! Inside, I wrote about everything you could imagine: stars in the sky, animals in the sea, strange plants from distant lands, how to make statues, and even stories of mythical creatures. I wanted to share everything I learned with the world so that everyone could be as curious as I was.
One day in the year 79, something incredible and scary happened. I was in charge of a fleet of Roman ships when a nearby volcano, Mount Vesuvius, exploded! A giant cloud of ash and smoke shot into the sky like a huge tree. My scientific mind wanted to see it up close, but my heart wanted to help the people who were in danger. I ordered my ships to sail toward the shore to rescue families. It was a brave mission, but the air became thick with ash and fumes.

The fumes from the volcano were too strong, and my journey ended there that day. I lived to be about 56 years old. Even though I was gone, my great book, 'Natural History,' was saved. For thousands of years, people have read my words to learn about the world as it was in Roman times. I hope my story reminds you to always stay curious, be brave, and never stop learning about the wonderful world around you.
