Just want Pompey the Great?
Hello! My name is Gnaeus Pompeius, but you can call me Pompey. I was born a very, very long time ago, in the year 106 BCE, in a famous city called Rome. I was a leader and a soldier, and I worked hard to help my city. I was so good at my job that people gave me a special name: Magnus. That means 'the Great' in the language we spoke, called Latin. So, everyone knew me as Pompey the Great!
One of my most important jobs was to keep the big, blue sea safe. Sometimes, naughty pirates in fast boats would bother the ships that carried food and other nice things to Rome. In the year 67 BCE, I sailed with my soldiers and told the pirates they had to stop. We made the whole sea safe so everyone could travel and bring yummy food for people to eat. I also loved my city. To make it even more beautiful, I helped build a giant, wonderful theater out of stone. In the year 55 BCE, we finished it, and it was a happy place where people could sit together and watch fun plays and shows.
I lived a big and busy life for 57 years. Even though that was a long, long time ago, people today still read stories about me. They remember me for making the seas safe for sailors and for building beautiful things for my city to enjoy. I will always be remembered as Pompey the Great, one of the most famous leaders of ancient Rome.
