Just want Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh?
Hello. My name is Philip, and you might know me as Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. I was born on an island called Corfu in Greece on June 10th, 1921. Even though I was a prince, my family had to move around a lot when I was a little boy. I lived in different countries, including France and Germany. Finally, I went to Great Britain, which is where I went to school and spent much of my life.
I always loved the sea. When I grew up, I decided to join the Royal Navy in 1939. I served on big ships during a very big conflict called World War II. It was a serious job, and I was proud to help my country. Around that time, I met a wonderful young woman, Princess Elizabeth. We started writing letters to each other to stay in touch. On November 20th, 1947, we got married. It was one of the happiest days of my entire life.
Just a few years later, in 1952, my wife became Queen Elizabeth II. My new job was to help and support her in her important work. I traveled all over the world with the Queen. We met amazing people and saw so many incredible things together. I was always very interested in science, taking care of animals, and helping young people have great adventures. In 1956, I started a special program called The Duke of Edinburgh's Award. It was created to encourage boys and girls to learn new skills, help others in their community, and explore the outdoors.
I had a very long and busy life filled with service, family, and adventure. The Queen and I had four children, and we were lucky to watch our family grow with grandchildren and even great-grandchildren. I lived to be 99 years old. Today, people remember me for being the Queen's partner for more than 70 years and for starting my award program, which still helps young people all over the world be the best they can be.
