Satyajit Ray: A Storyteller's Imagination

Hello! My name is Satyajit Ray. My friends called me Manik. I loved telling stories more than anything. I grew up in a big city in India called Calcutta. When I was a little boy, I was always drawing pictures. I imagined wonderful adventures in my head. I learned that I could share all the pictures in my mind with everyone. I did this by making movies and writing books for children just like you!

My very favorite thing to do was make movies. A movie is like a story that moves and talks on a big screen. I made a famous film called Pather Panchali. It is a story about a little boy named Apu and his sister. They live in a small village. They do not have many toys, but they have very big imaginations. They find fun everywhere they look, playing games and exploring. I also loved to write books. I created a super-smart detective named Feluda. He was very good at solving tricky puzzles. Feluda went on many exciting adventures in my books for children.

I spent my whole life sharing my stories with the world. It made me so happy to see people smile when they watched my films. I loved knowing that children were excited to read my mystery books. I lived to be 70 years old. Even though I am not here anymore, my stories are. When you watch one of my movies or read about Feluda's adventures, a little piece of my imagination is still here, playing right alongside yours.
