Just want Sergei Korolev?
Hello! My name is Sergei Korolev, and I always dreamed of the sky. I was born a long time ago, on January 12th, 1907. When I was a boy, I loved watching birds soar through the air. I wanted to fly just like them! I thought it was the most amazing thing to be up so high, looking down at the world. I read every book I could find about airplanes and flying. I learned about wings and wind and how things could lift off the ground. When I was just a teenager, in 1923, I even designed and built my very own glider. It didn't have an engine, but it could float on the air. I knew right then that I wanted to spend my life building things that could fly.
As I grew older, my dreams grew bigger. I didn't just want to fly in the sky—I wanted to go even higher, all the way to the stars! I started studying how to build rockets. It was a very new idea back then, and not many people thought it was possible to leave the Earth. But I believed we could. I became the leader of a team of very smart engineers and scientists. We were called the 'Chief Designers,' and together we worked on this big, exciting challenge. We worked together, sharing our ideas and helping each other solve tricky problems. It was like putting together a giant, complicated puzzle. There were some very hard times when things didn't work right, but I never gave up on my dream of reaching space. I knew that if we kept trying, we would succeed.
Our hard work paid off! On October 4th, 1957, my team and I launched the world’s first satellite, Sputnik 1. It was a small metal ball that orbited the Earth, going around and around our planet. It sent out a little 'beep-beep' sound that people all over the world could hear on their radios. It was proof that we could send things into space! But we had an even bigger dream: to send a person into space. A brave man named Yuri Gagarin was chosen for the mission. We built a special spacecraft just for him. On April 12th, 1961, we launched his spacecraft, Vostok 1, and he became the first human to see our beautiful planet from above! He saw the Earth as a big blue and white ball floating in the darkness of space.

For a long time, my name was kept a secret to protect our important work. Most people only knew me as 'The Chief Designer.' I lived to be 59 years old. Today, people remember me as the person who helped open the door to space for all of humanity. My work helped start the 'Space Age' and showed everyone that with big dreams and a lot of hard work, we can reach for the stars. My dream of flying took me, and the world, farther than I ever imagined.
