The story

Shah Jahan: A Palace of Love

Hello! My name is Shah Jahan. A long, long time ago, I was a prince, and in the year 1628, I became a great emperor. I lived in a big, beautiful palace in a land called India. Being an emperor was a very important job, but the most important person in my whole world was my wife.

My wife’s name was Mumtaz Mahal, and I loved her more than anything. We would laugh and play together in our palace gardens. She was my very best friend. But one day in the year 1631, she had to go away to live among the stars, and I was very, very sad. I missed her so much. I wanted to build something special to show her, and the whole world, that my love for her would last forever.

So, in the year 1632, I decided to build the most beautiful building in the entire world for her. It is called the Taj Mahal. I had it made from shiny white stone that sparkles in the sunshine and glows in the moonlight. It took many years and many helpers to build because I wanted it to be a perfect palace. It was a special gift of love for my dear Mumtaz Mahal.

I lived a long life and passed away in the year 1666. Today, many, many years later, people from all over the world still come to India to see the Taj Mahal. They look at the sparkling white walls and remember the story of my great love. It shows everyone that love can help you create something truly wonderful that lasts forever.
