Just want Wladimir Köppen?
Hello! My name is Wladimir Köppen. I was born a long, long time ago, in the year 1846. When I was a little boy, I loved being outside. I would look at all the colorful flowers, the tall trees, and the fluffy clouds in the sky. I always wondered, 'Why is it sunny here but snowy somewhere else?' I loved plants very much, and I loved watching the weather change every day.
As I grew up, I decided to sort all the different types of weather in the world. I had a big idea! Around the year 1900, I made a special map of the whole world. I used colors to show what the weather was like in different places. I painted cold, snowy places blue, and hot, dry, desert places red. Places with lots of rain and tall trees were colored a bright green. My map showed everyone, with just a peek, where it was chilly, where it was warm, and where it was perfect for growing yummy fruits!
I lived to be 93 years old, and I spent my life studying our amazing planet. Today, people still use my colorful map to understand the Earth's weather. It helps farmers know where to plant their seeds and helps us learn how to take care of all the special places in our world. I am so happy my love for plants and weather helps people every single day.
