The story

The Tree of Life

Hello there. Can you guess who I am. I live in sunny places like Africa and Madagascar where the air is warm and cozy. My trunk is super wide and round, like a giant, huggable tummy. My branches are funny because they look like little roots tickling the sky. It makes people giggle. They whisper that I look like a tree that was planted upside-down. I think it makes me special and fun to look at. I love to wave my rooty branches in the warm breeze. It is my way of saying hello to the sun.

I have been standing here for a very, very long time. I have been here for thousands of years. I am a big helper. My giant trunk is like a big water bottle for the earth. When the ground is dry and my animal friends are thirsty, they know I save water for them. I also grow a fuzzy fruit that people love to eat. It tastes a little bit like sweet sherbet and it is full of good things to keep them healthy and strong. People also use my strong bark to make ropes and soft cloth. I love being a home for birds who build their nests in my branches, and I give everyone a big, shady spot to rest when the sun is hot.

Have you guessed my name yet. I am the Baobab Tree. Because I give so much to everyone, many people call me the 'Tree of Life'. I give food to eat, water to drink, and a safe place to live and rest. I am a happy reminder that nature gives us wonderful gifts. When you see a big, strong tree, remember me. Remember how much I love to help all my friends, the big ones and the small ones, for many, many years. Every tree is a helper, just like me.
