The Story of Big and Small
Do you know why a tiny puppy can curl up in your lap, but a big elephant needs a whole field to play? I am the idea that helps you see that. I am in the giant sun that warms your face and the little ladybug that tickles your hand. Think about a big, tall tree and a tiny little flower. Or a huge bus and a small red wagon. Before you even know my name, you use me to understand your world.
My name is Big and Small. A long, long time ago, during the Stone Age, maybe even over 2 million years ago, the very first people needed me to survive. They didn't have stores or houses. I helped them know the difference between a big, dangerous animal and a small, friendly one. I helped them find a big rock to use for shelter and a small, sharp stone to use as a tool. I have been helping people make smart choices for thousands and thousands of years.
Today, I am still your helper. I am with you when you build a tall tower of blocks and when you draw a tiny star. I help you pick the biggest apple for a snack or the smallest shell on the beach. Looking for big and small things is a fun game you can play anywhere, and I will always be there to help you explore the wonderful sizes all around you.
