I Am Citizenship
Hi there. Do you know that warm, happy feeling you get when you are part of a team, and everyone is cheering together? Or when your family gives you a big group hug? That feeling of belonging is a little piece of me. I am the special secret that connects you to a great big family called a country. Hello, my name is Citizenship.
Once upon a time, a very long time ago in sunny places, people learned that living together was better if everyone helped. They promised to be fair and keep their homes nice and clean. That’s when they got to know me. Today, when you are born in a place, you become part of its big country family. You get a special paper, like a little book called a passport, that says, 'You belong here.' It is my job to give you special things, like being kept safe, and little jobs to do, like being kind to others.
Being a good citizen is just like being a good friend. It means sharing your colorful crayons, taking turns on the slide at the park, and helping to clean up your toys when playtime is over. I help everyone remember that we are all on the same team. When we are kind and helpful, we make our neighborhoods, our towns, and our whole world a happier and friendlier place for everyone to live.
