The Wiggle That Walked the World
Do you ever get a little wiggle in your toes. A feeling that makes you want to run across the playground or see what’s over the big, green hill. It’s a happy, bouncy feeling that makes you want to go, go, go. That feeling is me. I help people explore new places and see new things. I am a big idea called Human Migration. I am the reason people have moved all over our big, wonderful world. I am the little nudge that tells you to go on an adventure.
I have been around for a very, very long time. The first families lived a long, long time ago in a warm, sunny place called Africa. This was around 70,000 years ago. I gave them a little wiggle in their toes, and they started walking. They followed big, fuzzy animals to find yummy food. They walked and walked until they reached new places called Asia and Europe. They saw tall mountains and big, blue rivers. Then the world got very chilly. It was an Ice Age. Because it was so cold, some people walked across a special land bridge to new homes in the Americas about 20,000 years ago. They were brave explorers.
I am still here today, helping people explore. I help families move to new houses in new towns. Sometimes they move to be closer to their grandma and grandpa. Sometimes they move for a new job. When people move, they bring wonderful things with them. They share yummy new foods, happy songs, and fun stories with their new friends. Because of me, the world is like a big, friendly neighborhood. Everyone shares and makes our world a more colorful and happy place to live together. I help us all become neighbors.
