The story

The Internet's Secret Keeper

Do you have a super special secret. Maybe it is a funny face you make with your best friend, or a secret handshake with a grown-up. Some things are just for you and the people you love to share. I am the feeling you get when you keep those special things safe. I am like a warm, cozy blanket that wraps around your secrets to keep them snug, especially your secrets on the computer. I help you decide who gets to know your special things.

Once upon a time, a long, long time ago on October 29th, 1969, some very smart people helped two big computers talk to each other for the first time ever. It was like they were whispering secrets from far, far away. This was the beginning of a giant, invisible playground called the internet. Later on, in the 1990s, lots and lots of people started to play on this new playground. They wanted to share pictures and stories, but they also had secrets they wanted to keep safe. That is when they called for me to help. I am Online Privacy, and I am here to be your helper.

My job is to help you be the boss of your information. I help you decide what things are okay to share, like a drawing of a silly monster or a picture of your favorite toy. But I also help you keep some things private, like your name, where you live, or when your birthday is. Those are special secrets. Always ask a grown-up for help before you share anything online. With me and your grown-up helping, you can have so much fun exploring the big online world, safely and happily.
