The Secret Sparkle

Hello! I have a secret. I am a tiny, invisible sparkle of energy. I hide inside things all around you, like special rocks and even bananas! For a very, very long time, nobody knew I was there. I was like a secret glow, waiting for someone to find me. It was like I was playing a long game of hide-and-seek. Can you guess what I am?

One day, a long, long time ago, a scientist named Henri Becquerel found me by accident! It was on March 1st, 1896. He left some special rocks in a dark drawer with a piece of photo paper. He forgot all about them! When he opened the drawer later, he saw a surprise picture! My invisible sparkles had danced on the paper and left a mark. Wow! Soon after, a very clever scientist named Marie Curie and her husband Pierre gave me my name. Around the year 1898, they discovered more of my sparkly friends, like polonium and radium. They were so excited to learn about my special energy!

Today, people use my energy for amazing superpower jobs! I help doctors take special pictures of the inside of your body to make sure you are healthy and strong. It’s like having x-ray vision! I can also be used to make electricity that lights up your home and powers your fun toys. I am Radioactivity, and my secret sparkle is a powerful helper. I love helping smart people discover new ways to make the world a brighter, better place for everyone!
