Hello, I'm a Rainbow!
Have you ever seen me after the rain stops and the sun peeks out?. I stretch across the sky like a giant, colorful smile. You can find my colors in your red boots, the yellow lemon in your kitchen, and the blue of the big, big ocean. I am in your box of crayons and your favorite paintings. I show up everywhere to make things beautiful and fun. I am all the Colors, and when sunlight and raindrops bring us all together, something amazing happens. I become a Rainbow! I love to surprise everyone with my bright stripes painted across the clouds for everyone to see.
Do you want to know my secret?. I am made from light and water. For a very long time, people would look up and wonder about me. Way back around 350 BCE, a thinker in a place called Ancient Greece named Aristotle tried to explain how I worked. He saw me and thought I was very special. But my biggest secret was discovered much, much later, in the 1660s, by a very curious person named Isaac Newton. He used a special piece of glass to show that plain old sunlight is actually filled with all of my colors. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet are all hiding in the sunshine, just waiting to pop out when it rains.
My job is to make the world bright and happy. I paint the green on the leaves of the tall trees, the purple in a pretty flower, and the orange in a sleepy sunset. I am everywhere. I love seeing you use my colors to draw pictures, build with colorful blocks, and tell wonderful stories. I am a happy surprise that shows you that even after a little rain falls, something beautiful and bright is always waiting to shine for you. So next time it rains, look up at the sky. You might just see me smiling down at you.
