The story

I Am Science Fiction

What if you could fly in a big, shiny rocket ship all the way to the moon? What if you had a robot friend to play with every day? I am that happy, wondering feeling you get when you think about tomorrow. I am the little spark of magic in stories about amazing things that haven't happened yet. I love adventures with bright lasers and friendly aliens from faraway stars. Before you know my name, I am just a happy dream of what could be.

A long, long time ago, people started telling stories about me. On a chilly January 1st in 1818, a kind lady named Mary Shelley wrote a story about a very smart scientist who created something new. He wanted to make a new friend. It was a story about making something brand new with science. Later, in 1865, a man named Jules Verne wrote exciting stories about big adventures. He wrote about people climbing into a special ship and blasting off to visit the moon. Wow. They didn't call me by my special name back then, but I was the big, happy idea in their books. I helped everyone dream about amazing trips and cool inventions.

Today, you can find me everywhere. I am in your favorite movies with zooming spaceships and in fun games with silly robots. I help real scientists think of new things to build, like faster planes and taller buildings. I help kids just like you imagine what the world will be like when you grow up. Do you know my name? I am Science Fiction. I am here to help you dream big, happy dreams. So always ask, "what if?" and think about the wonderful, amazing future.
